Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Category Manager’s job is to maximize a Vendor’s or sub Category’s contribution to IBITDA.  This is accomplished by leading and influencing Vendors, Customers, Sales, Pricing, Purchasing, and Operations to establish industry leading categories, while focusing on growing sales and gross profit, maximizing GMROI and maximizing retained income.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES 

  • Analyzes new vendors and items for potential sales and profitability, including viability of vendor items, minimums, backhauls opportunities, profit potential, and participation in revenue generating events.
  • Manages Vendor participation in Food Shows, Booking Events, Sales Meeting, Flyers.
  • Manages all Marketing and Promotional activities for their Category
  • Negotiates growth, rebate, and programs that drive sales and increase category profitability.
  • Analyze reporting data for missed sales opportunities and potential new sales opportunities with in Customers, Divisions, and Vendors.
  • Proactive in gathering market trends and information that insures the Category is competitive and profitable
  • Develop Sales Strategy by Category by Territory
  • On-going, strategic SKU rationalization
  • Provides consistent, relevant, and valuable communication with Sales Reps and Sales Management to source ways to increase sales and address any specific customer issues
  • Performs other job duties as required

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

 Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university preferred

 Experience Required:

  • Four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • System implementation experience is preferred

 Required Knowledge:

  • Experience in negotiations and management skills
  • Excellent understanding of market penetration strategies, market development techniques, and market segmentation strategies, coupled with a high level insight to retailer trends and consumer behaviors.
  • Knowledgeable in promotional techniques, protocols, pricing strategies, distribution channels and competitive issues
  • Knowledgeable of manufacturing, manufacturing costs, and product price components.

 Skills/Abilities

  • Able to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledgeable and proficient t in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and inventory software
