Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: 

The Deli Cook aids in the success of the store by performing food preparation duties, cooking and maintaining quality of current product within the Deli.  They serve as a model for extraordinary customer service and support the company guiding principles through all duties preformed within the position.

BASIC DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Ensure that customer experience excellent conditions when visiting the deli, receive and greeting and are able to find what they need.
  • Treat fellow associates, supervisory team, vendors and customers with dignity and respect.
  • Report to shift when scheduled and arrive on time.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Deli Cook job responsibilities, equipment and products
  • Clean and inspect kitchen equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
  • Clean, cut, and cook raw food products as needed.
  • Compile and maintain records of food use and expenditures.
  • Monitor menus and spending to ensure that meals are prepared economically.
  • Plan menus that are varied, nutritionally balanced, and appetizing, taking advantage of foods in season and local availability.
  • Requisition food supplies, kitchen equipment, and appliances, based on estimates of future needs.
  • Train new employees.
  • Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and other cooking equipment or machinery
  • Evaluate premises for cleanliness
  • Follow recipes
  • Inventory stock to ensure adequate supplies.
  • Maintain records, reports, or files
  • Measure or weigh ingredients for food preparation
  • Operate baking equipment and food preparation equipment
  • Perform a variety of food preparation duties other than cooking
  • Prepare appetizers, salads, or cold dishes
  • Provide customer service.
  • Requisition stock, materials, supplies or equipment
  • Use knives, use knowledge of food handling rules, use specialized bakery equipment
  • Record production or operational data on specified forms. Recruit and hire staff, such as cooks and other kitchen workers.
  • Perform all duties as assigned by the supervisor or Manager on duty
  • Adhere to all Company policies, procedures and practices

Job Requirements

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: 

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds frequently.
  • Standing and walking 100% of the time.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, grasping and reaching.
  • Meet productivity standards established for the department
  • Ability to complete basic mathematic functions; add, subtract, multiply, divide
  • Tolerate working in cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time
  • Able to handle a variety of substances associates with cleaning materials, packaging, and food products
  • Able to use hands freely; ability to use hand tools
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Available to work varied hours/days to assist with store operations. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

System implementation experience is preferred.
